ABOUT

When I was a child, visiting my grandparents in the country, they would go to bed early. As the unfamiliar silence in the house kept me awake, I would look at books piled up next to my bed. Works by Kollwitz and Munch fascinated me and I looked at their prints until I fell asleep over them. A discovery that did not make it easy for my grandmother and her dog to wake me up in the morning.

My interest in printmaking techniques developed further during my studies at the HAW Hamburg (diploma in illustration and communication design). Since graduating in 2012 I have been working in the university's printmaking workshop as a lecturer for lithography and color woodcut. From 2015-24 I was a member of the fux eG in Hamburg-Altona. In our shared artist studio I created series of ink drawings and woodcut editions. I am regularly working in Hamburg's museum scene, currently part-time at Museumsdienst Hamburg.

I find my ideas by observing photography, reading, listening to music. I like how songs accompany the creation of an artwork and sometimes influence the drawing. But mostly it is the material itself from which the impulses come. Working on wood and stone surfaces is not only beautiful, but also always holds surprises. And I like to wonder about my picture.
